Manor United Church Variety Concert

It was a Christmas Concert in Manor Sunday, December 11, afternoon with nearly a full house in the United Church in Manor. Organizing the concert were Manor residents Helen Hortness and Marilyn Mason.

The capable mistress of ceremonies was Marilyn Mason even though she said she wished she’d gotten someone else as m.c. when she saw the crowd!

She did a fine job keeping the program moving along by announcing each person and the ones next.

She was backed up by musicians Leona Haney and Shirley Kyle of “Just Us” Band; and Robert Boutin and Mary Van Sprundel of “Sharps and Flats.”  Then they were joined by Don Britt at the organ. Don said later, “(I) ministered in Manor and Redvers in the mid nineties and now live in Oxbow with my wife Georgia. I teach music in three schools and serve at Frobisher Union Church.”

There were lots of talented young people singing, dancing and many of them played instruments. The future looks bright in the musical department.  Manor has always been a hotbed of musical talent! Don’t start the topic of talent emanating from the area as the list will barely ever end!

Reverend Cornelia van Bentum, Minister of Redvers Manor United Lutheran Shared Ministry (RMULSM) sang a few German songs adding more variety to the program.
Author Barbara Haddow, Kenosee Lake, read her first children's book to the audience with help from two sweet girls holding her illustrations up and turning pages. Watch for her ad in the newspaper.

Decorations in the church and in the lunchroom were all looked after by Helen and Marilyn with help from other community members. They also organized a luncheon of sweet goodies, tea, coffee and juice after the Variety Concert with help from members of the community. There was even a table set up where they had placed items to be chosen by participants to remember the day- a memento or souvenir! Nice touch.

Long time Manor Community Member Alice Zimmerman shared some Christmassy readings with the audience after graciously thanking all those who had helped contribute to the success of the day. Not a small part was the very appreciative audience. The Manor United Church was very close to being full!
