Dancing at Danceland, Watrous

Dancing last weekend was at DANCELAND, Watrous, Saskatchewan, Thursday, January 20. Dancing Friday night, January 21, same place AND Dancing Saturday night, January 22 same place. Three days of glory on a fantastic floor made bouyant by piles of horse hair under the floor!
Playing the dance music at Danceland was the band, "The Fugitives." They included Henry Martens, vocals and guitar; Kenny Lodge, drummer; Dianne Lodge, vocals and bass guitar; all from Baldur; and fiddle player Bill Gray, violin teacher from Killarny, Manitoba.
The 56 seat Prairie Coach Bus was nearly full with dancers and musicians for a very special weekend with soaking in the mineral waters at Watrous Mineral Spa all day, shopping, socializing, wondrous evening meals and fabulous dancing at Danceland, Watrous, each evening for a spectacular three days.
"Wahoo!" was the comment by Betty Brooks of Baldur and yours truly just made a committment to herself to dance every dance and that happened Saturday night whether with someone or not! It does take courage to get up yourself to dance alone. The benefits are as Betty Gordon of Wapella said, "Dance Music is good for the soul; Dance Music is good exercise for the body; Dance Music is inspiration for the mind!" Another "B" at our table, Bernice Everson, Plumas, danced alot as well and then there was a spritely person we named "Bernadette" and she was at our table some but she circulated around the dancers all evening. Her home town was either Watrous or a town close to there. She was a delight but I think her real name was "Doris".
At the end of each evening of dancing the band had all the dancers circle the hall and hold hands. Every evening the whole huge circle swayed left and right to the music as the band played the song, "Best of Friends" and everyone joined in singing the song. Many a heart was held longer than the hands around the hall. Memorable.
