One Little Town's Struggle - In Bed With Wrong People?

There were about five elderly community members removed from this one community and placed, in one case, about an hour and a half away from the community where he'd grown up. He died. It's a miracle his caregiver didn't also die with struggling to drive to visit him wherever the powers that be sent him in their faulty wisdom.
The little town's friends and relatives of these elderly peole became angry over what had happened. They formed a committee of local folk around the idea of "Save our Beds," when five beds were closed and the elderly moved into other areas. It is nearly a year since the local committee has been formed. There was a meeting just Thursday, March 3 and over 200 people came from this southeast part of Saskatchewan for the meeting lending support to the committee.
A dear friend, daughter of a friend who used to be from the southeast, sent me the following: "At the end when you have no fight and no voice left heartless governments and younger more agile people take that away. I guess they forget that they too will get old!" She continued, "I remember when my Mum's Mum and Dad needed care. Grandma waited for ever for a spot." (Finally there was an opening!  But it was only one spot for her and not Grandpa.) "They had been married over 50 years." What does one do?
If the government has to appoint people to a Health Region shouldn't they HAVE to appoint local folk to a board NOT people they are beholden to in the past or ones with experience in the health field or anyone far removed from the area. Sort of like the French Queen, out of touch as she was of her subjects, telling the king the solution of them having no bread to eat, "Then the peasants should eat cake if they don't have any bread!"  For heaven's sakes! The silly things!
Local appointees would individually know the elderly people they would be dealing with - may have been dangled on younger knees when they were youngsters- They could not be cruel to ones they respected and grew up liking perhaps even learning to love. Local appointees would more likely deal with their old friends in a kind way.
That local committee is stronger than ever and that meeting has only galvanized their feelings. Sometimes you have to be made of steel. You can't go far wrong using kindness but you shouldn't be in bed with strangers! Sounds kinda smutty to me!
