A Winter Dance at Wawota
The Family Dance at Wawota was the first Monday evening in March from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. It was $8.00 at the door for the dance and a coffee, tea or juice at 9:30 pm. Everyone brings lunch eaten after the dance. It was well done with a crowd of 66 people from all over the southeast of Saskatchewan and western Manitoba. The band was "Southern Country" with band members from Moosomin, Welwyn, and Wawota. One of the best dances, in my opinion, was one that had been taught by Moosomin instructors, Johann and Hilda, at their dance classes every second Wednesday at Moosomin. It was called, "The Rock Valley Jig" which is made up of two rows of dancers crossing back and forth. After crossing to the other side there is a little grapevine and then the steps are repeated. An awesome dance and everyone can take part. The whole back of the hall was used for this during a faster polka step. There are no partners but you are altogether as a group in rows.
The dance committee did a very good job of organizing the eating, drinking, dancing and monies that were handed out from sponsors and the club to lucky winners. A good dance.
