First Annual Dine and Dance to Fund Manor Fire Dept

First annual Dine and Dance for Manor Fire Department was a great success beginning with the evening meal Saturday, May 7.
A great meal by Caterers Rylan and Cindy Weir at Manor Hall in the evening. Barbequed meats, beans chock full of protein for health, salads and desserts to boot! One man went for another sugar shot about 11:00 in the evening -probably a second dessert! Coffee, too, or whatever your choice of drink. It could be had!
There were people slated to work the door and after the meal, Colin Thul and other people were there whisking dirty dishes and garbage away in a very efficient manner.
Many businesses - in town and many from out of town -had donated items for the auction which was capably orchestrated at the microphone by Troy Chapman after the meal. Also helping out were Mike Riddell and others being the legs to gather names, pull tickets and do other necessary jobs. Good community effort!
One very special item purchased and donated by Shane and Val Cuddington and their family, Madison and Colby, was a Master Craft Tool Set beautifully wrapped as a Surprise item. It was auctioned off with proceeds going towards helping a friend Jeff Leland with some health issues. His wife is a local Manor girl-Tamara (Akins) Leland. Her parents are Bob and Vicki Akins of Manor too. A “Group of Four” from Carlyle generously bid on the wrapped item until they outbid everyone else with a final bid of $650.00. An ice cream pail was also passed through the crowd in the Manor Hall and $750.00 cash was realized for a grand total of $1400.00 for the Leland Family. Terrific community support.
The dance was slow to gather momentum but once people got going it became a little like an avalanche without any of the bad associated with that happening. Sometimes dances need a leader and the "Disc Jockey" from the stage, should be up and at 'em to help lead the dancers to dance. Just my thought! Maybe I'm still back in the days of Square Dancing when they were led by a SD Caller. That (square dancing) was not my forte either. It's a job for someone who loves music and rhythm but has no great need to dance. That's not yours truly!
Hats off to all the unsung heroes in the town on a great first - First Dine and Dance for Funding Fire Dept and other causes in Manor.
